What is the difference between a psychiatrist and psychologist?
Psychiatrists are qualified medical doctors who have pursued further training in mental illness. They specialise in the assessment and diagnosis of mental disorders and can prescribe medications.
Psychologists in clinical practice usually have trained for 6-8 years and have a masters or doctorate in psychology with an arts or science background. They are trained in assessment and providing therapy and do not prescribe medications.
What can PPS clincians do to help me?
Your PPS Clinician will work with you to develop a shared understanding of the underlying causes of your problem or condition, and to identify and help you implement the changes required to recover. They will provide you with practical tools that will assist you regain balance in your life.
How long does it take?
It is difficult to give a specific amount of sessions needed but normally only a short course of 3-6 sessions is required.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a psychotherapy based on cognitions, assumptions, beliefs, and behaviors, with the aim of influencing negative emotions that relate to inaccurate appraisal of events. The general approach, developed out of behavior modification, Cognitive Therapy and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, has become widely used to treat various kinds of neuroses and psychopathology, including mood disorders and anxiety disorders.
